Principal Naraine
Principal's Message
Dear Q109 Community,
I hope this letter finds you well. I write to share some important updates regarding the leadership transition at IS 109.
As many of you are aware, when a principal retires or transitions to a new position, it necessitates the appointment of an interim acting principal while we undergo a thorough process in accordance with Chancellor’s Regulation C-30 to select and appoint a permanent principal.
During this period of transition, Dr. Beatrice Thompson admirably served as the Interim Acting Principal at Q109. We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Thompson for her dedication and leadership during this time.
After a comprehensive C-30 process, which included Level 1 and 2 interviews and consultation with the School Leadership Team (SLT), I am pleased to announce that Ms. Lukia Naraine has been selected as the new Principal for IS 109. With 24 years of experience at Q109 as both a teacher and assistant principal, Ms. Naraine brings a wealth of knowledge, a clear vision for improving student achievement, and a proven track record as an instructional leader. She deeply understands the needs of the school community and has fostered strong relationships with all stakeholders.
Ms. Naraine is committed to ongoing professional growth to best serve the needs of staff and students. She is dedicated to our students and families and possesses the skills necessary to enhance outcomes for all students by collaborating closely with teachers and staff to ensure that Q109 meets the needs of every learner.
I am confident that Ms. Naraine is the ideal choice to lead Q109 into the future, and I urge you to join me in offering her our full support as she embarks on this new role.
Please join me in congratulating Ms. Lukia Naraine on her appointment as Principal at 29Q109. Thank you for your continued trust in our decision-making process.
Best Regards,
Dr. Crystal Bonds,
Community School Superintendent, District 29
Message from Assistant Principal Dorsaint
Greeting I.S. 109 family!
My name is Pauline Dorsaint, I have been an assistant principal at Jean Nuzzi Intermediate School 109 for over sixteen years. At I.S. 109, everyone works together to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
It is my belief that middle school students achieve academic success when their social and emotional needs are met. Middle school is a transition from elementary to high school, it is also a time of intellectual and physical transition for our students. As a middle school leader, I believe cultivating a collegial culture of respect and shared leadership will contribute to improvement in student learning.
Leadership plays a significant role to ensure that every child achieves academic success. At I.S. 109, students are held to higher standards both behavioral and academically. The teaching staff works tirelessly to transfer purposeful, engaging, and hands-on learning.
I.S. 109 holds a special place in my heart; I welcome all to join our diverse community!

Mr. Marsh
Welcome to Jean Nuzzi I.S. 109, I am excited to take this road with your child to support them in their academic journey. Each school year we have an opportunity to start off the new academic year with fresh hopes and the chance to reach new heights as well as set goals and strive to reach our full potential. Always remember in this road we will experience new challenges and obstacles that we will face along the way. It is important to recognize that those challenges are there to give us a chance to build character, to learn, and to grow. I look forward to taking this journey with you and your child here at Jean Nuzzi I.S. 109.
