Meet the Administrators
Principal's Message
Dear IS 109 Family,
I want to first welcome you all to IS 109. We the community of IS 109 take pride in the work that we do with educating your child. We believe in the system of teaching children as they one day become a citizen of this great nation. Your child will meet various children from various cultural backgrounds as well as our staff. Your child will have the opportunity to expand their learning through the electives, after-school programs, and Saturday programs.
I want to take a moment to express the importance of you as a parent joining the PTA and keeping an open dialogue with your child’s teachers. We have a host of clubs and intervention programs that we offer in our school not just for our students but also for our parents. There is a set of workshops that we will be offering for our parents. A list of those workshops is sent monthly to you describing the topics. These workshops were chosen by parents who attend the PTA, who felt these particular workshops would be helpful to parents.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you throughout the school year.
Thank you,
Ms. Karleen Adam-Comrie,
Principal
Message from Assistant Principal Dorsaint
Greeting I.S. 109 family!
My name is Pauline Dorsaint, I have been an assistant principal at Jean Nuzzi Intermediate School 109 for over sixteen years. At I.S. 109, everyone works together to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
It is my belief that middle school students achieve academic success when their social and emotional needs are met. Middle school is a transition from elementary to high school, it is also a time of intellectual and physical transition for our students. As a middle school leader, I believe cultivating a collegial culture of respect and shared leadership will contribute to improvement in student learning.
Leadership plays a significant role to ensure that every child achieves academic success. At I.S. 109, students are held to higher standards both behavioral and academically. The teaching staff works tirelessly to transfer purposeful, engaging, and hands-on learning.
I.S. 109 holds a special place in my heart; I welcome all to join our diverse community!

Message from Assistant Principal Naraine
Dear IS 109 Family,
I am very pleased to introduce or reintroduce myself to all of you. As one of the members of the administrative team, I am proud to lead the English Language Arts Department (ELA), the English as a New Language Department (ENL), and Grade 8. I have been a member of the IS 109 family for over 20 years as a teacher, Dean, Literacy Coach, and Assistant Principal. IS 109 is more than just a job; to me, it is family.
Currently, the ELA Department is using HMH Into Literature as our main curriculum, along with supplemental readings and projects which support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Our ENL teachers support students in their core content classes, as well as providing services for students in small groups.
As a parent of two teenagers, I know how difficult this transition to virtual learning has been, and the new challenges that this has presented for all of us. Please know that I am here to help so feel free to contact me with questions, comments, or concerns. I am thankful for your continued support and look forward to our continued success together!
Respectfully,
Lukia Naraine

Message from Assistant Principal Marsh
Mr. Marsh
Welcome to Jean Nuzzi I.S. 109, I am excited to take this road with your child to support them in their academic journey. Each school year we have an opportunity to start off the new academic year with fresh hopes and the chance to reach new heights as well as set goals and strive to reach our full potential. Always remember in this road we will experience new challenges and obstacles that we will face along the way. It is important to recognize that those challenges are there to give us a chance to build character, to learn, and to grow. I look forward to taking this journey with you and your child here at Jean Nuzzi I.S. 109.
